Former President Bill Clinton congratulated President-elect Donald Trump over the telephone on Thursday, the US media reported.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — According to CNN, Bill Clinton congratulated Trump and wished him well.

"President Clinton phoned President-elect Trump this afternoon," a Trump aide said, according to CNN. "During the brief call, President Clinton congratulated Mr. Trump and wished him well."

On Wednesday, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, wife of Bill Clinton, conceded election defeat to Trump.

Outgoing President Barack Obama called on the American people on Thursday to unite after the election and promised to work with President-elect Trump during the transition process.
