UK May See Closer Ties With US After Trump’s Victory – UKIP Lawmaker
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Earlier in the day, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson congratulated Donald Trump on being elected the next US president, expressing confidence that they would be able to take UK-US ties forward together.

"The UK will be trying to negotiate a new trade deal with the USA which might be hard but it just maybe that Trump will play the UK off against the EU. I think there will be much more goodwill between the USA and UK outside the EU than there will be with the rest of the EU," Sidney Cordle, the party’s leader, said.

He added that Brussels would have "a really tough time" with Trump's foreign policy. However, it is possible that the president-elect will still conclude some kind of deal with the bloc, if it is in Washington’s interests, Cordle said.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who is well-known for his criticism of the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) free trade deal with Brussels, won the US presidency despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton.
