MOSCOW (Sputnik) Europe may become more independent from the United States under Republican Donald Trump who has just declared victory in the presidential election, which will encourage the country to reassess its anti-Russia policy and propose a major reform of the bloc, a French lawmaker told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"If America is to withdraw more from Europe it is a chance for a French president to propose again a Gaullist policy with an independent point of view. So there is an opportunity to seize and to start again looking towards Russia, propose a deep reform of the EU," Nicolas Dhuicq, who is also a member of the French National Assembly's defense committee, said.

Earlier in the Day, Republican candidate Donald Trump became the president-elect of the United States.
