BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The European Commission said in a fall forecast published Wednesday that it expects euro area inflation to remain at 1.4 percent next year and in 2018.
"Overall, inflation in the euro area is expected to rise from 0.3% in 2016 to 1.4% in both 2017 and 2018," the commission said of the 19-member monetary zone.
In the wider 28-member bloc, inflation is expected to climb from 0.3 percent this year to 1.6 percent next year, and 1.7 percent in 2018.
The European Commission also expects up to 1.7 percent GDP growth in the eurozone in 2018 for the first time in its fall economic forecast published Wednesday.
"In its autumn forecast released today, the European Commission expects GDP growth in the euro area at 1.7% in 2016, 1.5% in 2017 and 1.7% in 2018," the commission said.
