US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton lost the election but won the popular vote, Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Republican Donald Trump triumphed over his Democratic challenger, Hillary Clinton, in the November 8 presidential election. He gained 276 electoral votes, which is more than 270 needed to win.

"She became the first major party nominee as a woman to be president and last night won the popular vote," Kaine said, ahead of Clinton’s speech.
