UK Secretary of State for Leaving the EU David Davis said on Monday he believed and valued the independence of the country’s judiciary, but the government disagreed with a ruling that it needed parliamentary support to begin the process of leaving the European Union.

Pressure on UK to Find Interim EU Deal Amid Brexit Complexities
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Thursday, the High Court ruled that the UK government had no right to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and launch Brexit negotiations with the European bloc without a parliamentary act backing the move. The government vowed to appeal the judgment at the Supreme Court, with the case expected to be heard in early December.

"We believe in and value the independence of our judiciary … The government disagrees with the court’s judgement, the country voted to leave the European Union in a referendum approved by the parliament," Davis told the parliament.

He added that the government would apply for permission to appeal the ruling in the Supreme Court this week.

According to Davis, the UK parliament will have a central role in finding the best way forward on Brexit.

"Parliament will have a central role in making sure we find the best way forward, and we’ve been clear we’ll be as transparent and open as possible," Davis told the House of Commons.
