Turkey Arrests 8 Lawmakers From Pro-Kurdish HDP Party Over Alleged PKK Ties

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The statement was made by HDP spokesman Ayhan Bilgen at a press conference the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, following a meeting of the HDP leadership. The party will not take part in the general assembly as we as in commission sessions, the Daily Sabah media outlet reported.

On Friday, over a dozen of members of HDP lawmakers including its co-chairs Figen Yuksekdag and Selahattin Demirtas, were arrested in raids carried out across the country.

Tensions between Ankara and Turkish Kurds escalated in July 2015 when a ceasefire between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) collapsed over a series of terrorist attacks, allegedly committed by PKK members.
