MOSCOW (Sputnik) — German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere is drafting a law on stripping dual nationals fighting abroad alongside terrorists of German citizenship, Zeit newspaper reported Friday.
According to the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (BKA), 870 Islamists from Germany are taking part in hostilities in Syria and Iraq with a "low three-digit number" of them holding double citizenship.
The initiative was first announced by the minister in August in response to terrorist attacks in Bavaria in July. The measure was also meant to make it easier to deport migrants deemed to be a threat to public security.
