Manager of Hillary Clinton’s election campaign Robby Mook on Tuesday criticized Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey for violating US regulations through reopening inquiry into the US Democratic presidential nominee's use of private email server for official business.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Accusing Comey of taking any politically-motivated actions, Mook said on ABC’s Good Morning America show:

"We’ve come to learn from anonymous leaks that are coming out that Director Comey’s own superiors at Justice warned him not to do this [namely, not to send the letter to Congress]. This is a break in protocol."

Earlier in the day, Mook accused Comey of applying double standards through focusing on investigating into the Clinton campaign while ignoring the one of her Republican rival Donald Trump.

On Friday, Comey told members of the US Congress in a letter that the bureau had found additional emails relevant to its investigation into Clinton’s use, as a secretary of state, of a private email server. The probe was reopened after a cache of 650,000 emails was found on the laptop of former congressman Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of Clinton’s long-time aide Huma Abedin. FBI investigators will determine if the emails contain classified information, Comey wrote.

The timing of Comey’s new disclosure has outraged Clinton’s campaign and supporters, particularly because voters in 36 states and Washington, DC have already begun early voting.

It emerged last year that Clinton had been using a server at her home to receive and send thousands of emails during her time as foreign policy chief in 2009-2013. Some of them were top secret.
