US Envoy Briefs NATO Allies on Fighting Daesh - State Dept.

The US president’s special envoy to the coalition fighting the Daesh, Brett McGurk, visited Italy this week to brief legislators from NATO countries on plans for the future of Mosul after the Iraqi city’s liberation, the US Department of State said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is composed of lawmakers from all of the alliance’s member governments.

"He participated in the Seminar of the Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group (GSM) of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and presented an update on the coalition’s efforts to defeat Daesh in Iraq and Syria as well as efforts to dismantle its foreign fighter and external operations networks," the release on Friday explained.

Daesh seized control of Iraq’s second-biggest city, Mosul, in 2014.

Iraqi government and Kurdish Peshmerga forces, backed by airstrikes from the US-led coalition, launched an offensive to retake Mosul on October 17.
