More than 154,000 BMW SUVs and cars are being recalled in Canada and the US due to a wiring problem causing engines to stall. Certain X5, X6, 5 series and 6 series vehicles are identified in the recall, which affects models made between 2007-2012.

According to documents, sent to US safety regulators by BMW, wiring inside the luxury vehicle’s fuel pumps may not have been crimped properly, which can cause wires to become loose, melt a connector, and cause a gas leak. This can cause an engine to stall because the fuel pump stops functioning.

The German car manufacturer stated that it is not aware of any injuries or crashes related to the defect. BMWs in South Korea, China and Japan have been recalled for similar issues. Fuel pump modules will be replaced by BMW dealers free of charge.
