Russia does not bomb civilians in Syria, Russia's Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Alexander Grushko said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia advances the peace settlement process and urges the UN special envoy to renew intra-Syrian negotiations, and fights the Daesh jihadist group in the Arab republic, Grushko added, responding to a query on Russia's objectives in Syria.

"There is no bombing of the civilian population there. Of course, there may be collateral damage," Grushko said in an interview with Germany's DW broadcaster.

No Evidence of US-Led Coalition Fighting Ex-Nusra in Syria

There is no evidence indicating that the US-led counterterrorist coalition is fighting the militant group formerly known as the al-Nusra Front (an al-Qaeda affiliate that renamed itself the Jabhat Fatah al-Sham in July), Russia's Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Alexander Grushko stated.

"There is no evidence or indication that the big coalition led by the US is indeed involved in the military operation against the al-Nusra Front. That is a problem that should be considered by the international community," Grushko said in an interview with Germany's DW broadcaster.
