US Navy Officer Killed in Mosul Operation Came Under Small Arms Fire
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Khizr Khan, the Muslim father of a US Army captain who was killed in Iraq, will join Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at a campaign stop in the state of Virginia, media reported on Tuesday.

Khan “is hitting the trail for Hillary Clinton in Virginia," the Los Angeles Times reported, citing the candidate’s campaign staff. "Khan will make three stops around Norfolk on Wednesday."

During the 2016 campaign, Clinton’s Republican rival, Donald Trump, has said all Muslims should be banned from entering the United States until immigration and national-security authorities determine their intentions.

Khan, a Pakistani-American, responded to Trump's controversial proposal with a speech at the Democratic Party’s national convention in July.

Clinton-Backed Iraq War Worse for Muslims Than Trump Rhetoric
Speaking onstage accompanied by wife Ghazala, Khizr Khan described how their son, Humayun Khan, saved the lives of his Army unit in Iraq but was killed by a suicide bomber. Khan also sharply criticized Trump, igniting a public feud between the two men and Clinton’s and Trump’s supporters.

Khan appears in a campaign television ad for Clinton that began airing last Friday. In it, the “Gold Star father” – so named for his family’s sacrifice – asks whether his late son would have had a place in a United States governed by Trump.
