The militants of the Daesh terrorist group mine bridges and main roads in the eastern part of Mosul and redeploy forces ahead of the Iraqi army’s assault, local media reported Monday citing a source in the city.

CAIRO (Sputnik) – The Daesh militants also mine bridges over the Tigris river, which separates the right and the left parts of the city, the Alsumaria broadcaster reported.

According to the news broadcaster, most of the terrorists to have been redeployed to the right part of the city, where they are busy strengthening their positions pending the Iraqi assault.

On October 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced the start of the military operation to retake Mosul from the Daesh militants. According to local media, about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers and 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the operation, backed by air strikes carried out by the US-led international coalition.
