Moscow will find a way to respond to possible introduction of new sanctions by the United States against Russia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Friday, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said that the United States and its partners would continue to discuss economic sanctions against Russia over the situation in Syria.

“In case of the extension of US sanctions lists amid mostly senseless and unreasonable reasons – we will find a way to respond so that the balance will change, and it is not going to be for the US benefit,” Ryabkov told RIA Novosti.

Ryabkov added also that it seems like the United States wants to fully destroy bilateral relations with Russia by making such statements.

“It seems like no other issues worry the US administration, except for the goal to fully destroy relations with Russia, so that many years would be needed then to restore them,” Ryabkov said.

The West blames Moscow and Damascus over alleged bombings of civilian population and armed opposition groups in Syria. Russia and the Syrian government insist that they only strike terrorist positions, while blaming the United States of their inability to differentiate between so-called "moderate opposition" and terrorists.
