MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The incident took place in the Georgensgmuend municipality, Bavarian police said in a statement. The man possessed the gun legally but police were ordered to seize it because the weapon did not comply with rules.
The gunman was lightly injured, while two of the police officers received serious wounds and two were slightly injured.
According to the police, the attacker belongs to the so-called Reich Citizens’ Movement, whose members believe the Third Reich continues to exist in modern Germany but within pre-WWII borders.
Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann and Middle Franconia police chief Johann Rast are expected to give a press conference in the afternoon on the incident and the phenomenon of the Reich Citizens’ Movement.
