Fabio Bosio, the owner of the Italian company Brescia, suggested introducing desalination technology in Crimea through constructing a plant that may provide the peninsula with electricity as well as running water, the press service of the Yalta International Economic Forum (YIEF) said Sunday.

SIMFEROPOL (Russia) (Sputnik) – Fabio Bosio, the owner of Italian company Brescia, suggested introducing desalination in Crimea by constructing a plant that may provide the peninsula with electricity as well as water, the press service of the Yalta International Economic Forum (YIEF) said Sunday.

"Bosio said he was ready to offer desalination technology to Crimea. The desalination plant, built according to his design, may provide the peninsula with electricity, drinking water and water to irrigate crops," the Fund, responsible for organizing the delegation’s visit to the Crimea region, said.

Bosio stressed he was eager to discuss establishing a joint enterprise in Crimea, the YIEF added.

According to the YIEF press service, Bosio emphasized that his company’s technology was innovative and brought more profit than the means of desalination that used to be applied. Moreover, it is patented and allows producing both technical and potable water.

The 18-member delegation of Italian lawmakers and businessmen, representing Italian regions of Veneto, Liguria, Lombardy, Toscana and Emilia-Romagna, are currently visiting the cities of Russia's peninsula of Crimea — Simferopol, Sevastopol and Yalta.

Ukraine used to cover 85 percent of Crimean needs for the fresh water until the Crimean peninsula seceded from Ukraine and reunified with Russia in March 2014.

The delegation arrived in Crimea to take part in a number of events dedicated to the Russian-Italian and the Crimean-Italian relations, common cultural heritage and economic projects. The delegates are also expected to discuss Italy's participation in the upcoming YIEF.

The Yalta International Economic Forum is an international business event annually held in Russia along with such events as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) and the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). The III YIEF will be held on April 20-22, 2017, with about 1,100 attendees.
