A new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) aircraft, Japan’s first domestically produced passenger jet, made a forced landing in Noto Airport in central Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture during a flight test.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — According to the Kyodo news agency, the aircraft took off from an airport in Japan's Aichi Prefecture on Thursday, and was supposed to return there after a flight test. However, the jet had to land in Ishikawa over "the need to clarify some issues," the media said citing a Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation's representative.

The MRJ is Japan's first locally-made commercial aircraft for around 50 years. It was manufactured by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp together with its parent company, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The jet was presented to the public in October 2014 and made its maiden flight the following month.

At the moment, the MRJ is going through tests in Japan and the United States.
