MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, Portland authorities ratified the police contract that envisaged salary hike for local police staff.
A group of people protesting the increase in the salaries of the local policemen had taken to the streets soon after the ratification and blocked traffic near the city hall for several hours, before local authorities decided to disperse the crowd, the KOIN 6 News TV channel reported Wednesday.
In response, police used pepper gas and detained 10 demonstrators, while one police officer was injured by a protester, the broadcaster added.
According to the media outlet, the protesters are planning to repeat their action on Friday.
