The bomb threat that grounded an airliner of Russia’s flag-carrier Aeroflot in Geneva on Thursday was false, the prosecutor’s office in the city said.

GENEVA (Sputnik) — The man, who the Russian consul in Switzerland identified as an Indian national, had a criminal case opened against him, the spokesman added.

"The man who made the threat was apprehended on the spot. He was interrogated by the police and confessed that the threat had been false, saying it was a joke," the prosecution’s spokesman said.

Flight 2381 from Geneva to Moscow was due to take off at 12:35 local time (10:35GMT) when the threat was made. Passengers were taken off the plane for additional checks and put on another flight to Moscow that departed at 10:11 p.m. (20:11GMT).
