EU, Belarus Launch Mobility Partnership to Control Migration Flows

Brussels and Minsk have formally launched a mobility partnership and signed a joint declaration establishing a framework for cooperation in the area of control over migration flows and tackling migration-related challenges, the European Commission said in a statement.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — According to Avramopoulos, the launch of mobility partnership is an important move as it will boost cooperation between the bloc and Belarus in the field of migration, asylum and border management.

"A Joint Declaration establishing a framework for future cooperation in the field of migration and mobility has also been signed by Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Igor Shunevich, and the Ministers responsible for migration from the seven EU Member States participating in the Mobility Partnership (Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania)," the statement issued on Thursday read.

The EU-Belarus Mobility Partnership seeks to establish objectives and identifies a number of fields in which a bilateral dialogue on the migration issue will develop, the statement added.
