Security on High Alert in Israel on Holy Day of Yom Kippur
Extensive security measures have been implemented across Israel as the country is observing Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days of the Jewish year, on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Israeli authorities have closed all border-crossing points with the Palestinian territories and halted air and sea communication with external world. All state and private enterprises, shops and restaurants are closed. Public transport is not working and television and radio broadcasts have been stopped.

Thousands of police officers are on high alert in cities and, in particular, near the holy places in Jerusalem.
The extensive security measures have been implemented two days after a terrorist attack in Jerusalem, where an Arab opened fire at a tram stop killing two and injuring six Israelis.
The 24-hour Yom Kippur observance started on Tuesday evening. Jewish people observe Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, in prayers and strict abstinence from food. According to the Jewish tradition, on that day, the God makes his verdict, while assessing people's activity over the past year.
