There is no proof to support the claims made by Western states about alleged Russia’s involvement in the attack on an aid convoy in Syria’s Aleppo, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

On Tuesday, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Russia was responsible for bombing the convoy the satellite photos available to public indicate that the attack was carried out from the air and in the darkness. He added that, since the Syrian army is not able to carry out an attack in the darkness, all the evidence points to Russia.

“Well, I think all the statements have to be verified because we just as in the case of accusations regarding hackers attacks against Democratic Party we never got any confirmation of the accusations which we receive. We have been asking the facts, we have insisted on the investigation of the attack on the humanitarian convoy in Aleppo on the 19th of October. And what my friend and colleague Boris Johnson was saying was absolutely politicking,” Lavrov told CNN in an interview.

“Some kind of clarity must be introduced in all these discussions. We are open for these discussions, we never cut connections. We want to discuss things and arrive at some truth instead of accusing each other without any justification,” Lavrov added.

He stressed that Moscow will continue to encourage Syrian army units to be cautious in attacks against the Nusra Front.

"We will continue to make all necessary precautions to advise the Syrian army to be very specific and very targeted, you know, in its actions against Nusra. But Nusra cannot be tolerated."

The Foreign Minister added that the United Nations Security Council list of terrorist organizations should be "revisited," as it does not include Ahrar al-Sham.

On Kaliningrad

Addressing Russia's movement of Iskander-M missiles into Kaliningrad, Lavrov stressed that this was standard army practice.

"As regards deployment of weapons in our territory — this is our territory," he said.

"Now the American I think F-35s — the latest planes — would be equipped with the modern version of nuclear bombs. And they would be deployed on Russian borders. And this is not the United States' territory."

On Russia-US Relations

Despite increased tensions between Washington and Moscow, Lavrov does not believe the two countries on the brink of war.

"Well, I don't think so. It is not our intention at all. We read of course statements of American military that the war is inevitable with Russia. I leave this on their conscience."

US, Russia Both Lose From Nuclear-Agreement Suspensions

Discussing the recent nuclear agreements, Lavrov said it was the US was guilty of violating cooperation in the nuclear sphere.

"As regards plutonium agreement, I hope you know that the United States did not implement its obligations because they could not, they actually changed the method of utilizing plutonium, which was described in the agreement, and the agreement became invalid. We did implement our obligations and we will continue to do this," he said.

"Couple of other agreements were about cooperation between Russia and the United States on nuclear issues, nuclear energy, but I explained to John Kerry long ago — two and a half years ago — soon after the Ukrainian crisis — the Department of Energy sent a formal note to the Russian Federation saying that under the circumstances they suspend all cooperation under these agreements."

On Snowden

Lavrov dismissed all accusations of Russia having recruited former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden as absurd.

"Let's remember about the Magnitsky law, about what happened, what reaction was received from Washington after Snowden found himself on the Russian soil. President Obama even cancelled his bilateral visit to Moscow because we did not extradite Snowden. And they really believe that we played a role, you know, attracting him to Russia and making him recruited by our security," he said.

"You know, it's a ridiculous situation because the guy was flying not to Russia, he was flying to some Latin American country."

Lavrov went on to describe the circumstances surrounding Snowden's arrival in Moscow.

"We could not legally allow him to board my plane. We could not allow him even to disembark in the Russian Federation, so he was kept in the terminal and then he addressed a request to give him some kind of asylum or refuge and this was granted," he said.

"But this case alone triggered such nervous reaction that as I said President Obama cancelled his visit to Moscow."
