Could the regional parliaments block the ratification of the EU-Canada Trade Deal, CETA? And, thousands sign open letter accusing UK Government of “state sanctioned discrimination.”

The EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement – or CETA, is due to be signed later this month, when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visits Brussels, but could the ratification of the controversial trade deal be blocked by the regional parliaments of Belgium?

Xenophobia, state sanctioned discrimination, restricted freedoms of citizenship…  Those are just some of the charges levelled at the UK government in an open letter entitled 'Not Foreign', which has been signed by thousands of Brits.  We'll be talking to one of the signatories, Common Weal think tank director, Robin McAlpine, about the content and power of such petitions.
