WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Russia is not interfering in the internal affairs of the United States by any means, Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak told an audience at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
"We do not interfere in internal affairs of the United States, either by statements or electronic means," Kislyak said on Tuesday.
The ambassador explained that Russia is following, but not trying to influence the upcoming US election.
On Friday, the US Department of Homeland Security and Office of the Director of National Intelligence said investigators were confident that Russia directed cyberattacks against US institutions and political organizations in a bid to influence the November 8 vote.
US media and politicians have accused Russia of trying to influence the selection of Republican nominee Donald Trump. According to the accusations, Trump is believed by Moscow to be more friendly to Russia than former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The Kremlin has called the hacking claims absurd and stressed that Russia has no desire to influence the US election.
