Two French Commandos Injured in Daesh-Linked Drone Attack in Iraqi Kurdistan

Two French commandos deployed in Iraqi Kurdistan were wounded in a drone attack by a militant group with connections to Daesh.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Le Monde newspaper, the incident happened on October 2 in Erbil, where the French servicemen were deployed near the Pershmerga fighters. Two Kurdish fighters were killed in the attack.

Peshmerga to Play Role as ‘Front-Line Partners’ in Mosul Battle
The two French soldiers were sent to receive medical support in France and they remain in a critical condition, according to the newspaper.

The French Defense Ministry has not yet confirmed the report, but the newspaper claimed that the ministry wanted to keep information about the incident secret.

France is an active participant of different security operations held in the Middle East, such as participation in the US-led coalition fighting against terrorists in Iraq and Syria. Daesh is a terrorist organization prohibited in many countries around the world, including in the United States and Russia.
