The actions of the suspected Syrian bomb plotter, who was caught overnight in a German police operation, suggest he could have links to the Daesh terror group, a Saxony police chief said Monday.

We need efficient controls to prevent so many unregistered asylum-seekers [who] keep on entering via Austria. [Border police] should be able if need be to have recourse to their firearms — as laid down by law, Petry said. - Sputnik International

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Jaber al-Bakr, 22, was arrested in the Paunsdorf area of Leipzig after two days of nationwide police hunt that followed the discovery of explosives in his Chemnitz apartment south of Leipzig.

"The methods and actions of the suspect speak in favor of IS context," Saxony criminal police chief Joerg Michaelis told reporters at a press conference.

Police found two fuses and other bomb parts, including an explosive known as triacetone triperoxide (TATP), which Michaelis said "corresponds" to the substance used in bomb attacks on Brussels and Paris.

The suspect evaded arrest during the police raid on his apartment and fled to Leipzig where he asked Syrian acquaintances to hide him. The unnamed Syrians tackled al-Bakr and called the police who detained him.
