Turnout in Georgian Parliamentary Elections Reaches 51.63%

The voter turnout in the parliamentary elections in Georgia reached 51.63 percent, the country's Central Election Commission said Saturday.

TBILISI (Sputnik) – "At 20:00 local time [16:00 GMT] all the polling stations were closed, according to the law. Over 1.814 million people casted their votes, which is 51.63 percent of the total number of registered voters," Central Election Commission’s spokeswoman Anna Mikeladze told a press briefing.

The ruling Georgian Dream Party is leading in the parliamentary elections, backed by 39.9 percent of the electorate, according to the exit poll results issued by the GFK company.

Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement (UNM) party is in the second place, with 32 percent of public support. According to the exit polls, no other party managed to gain enough support to win seats in the parliament.
