Iraqi Kurdistan asked on Tuesday the United Kingdom for help against possible chemical attacks of Daesh ahead of the battle for Mosul.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to The Guardian, a letter with the request was sent to UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon by the Kurdish High Representative in the United Kingdom Karwan Jamal Tahir. He reportedly said that Daesh terrorists used chemical weapons against Kurdish Peshmerga military units at least 19 times.

The Kurdish forces have so far relied on primitive means of protection from chemical attacks such as towels, water tanks and hats.

The request was made amid preparation for the offensive aimed at the liberation of Mosul, Iraqi main stronghold of Daesh.

Mosul, the second biggest Iraqi city, as well as a number of other northern and western Iraqi cities and towns were seized in 2014 during an offensive of the Daesh terror group, outlawed in Russia.
