Speaker of the Iranian parliament Ali Larijani has refused to hold a meeting with Germany’s Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel without providing an official explanation to this step.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — A big delegation of German officials, including the vice chancellor, is visiting Iran on October 2-4. The meeting between Gabriel and Larijani was initially scheduled for Tuesday, however, the Iranian side suddenly cancelled it, according to the Spiegel Online magazine.

According to the media outlet, no official explanation to this refusal has been provided yet, though, it can be connected with recent Gabriel's critical statements regarding human rights situation in Iran and Iran's behavior toward Israel.

Earlier in October, the Spiegel Online magazine quoted Gabriel as saying that the Germany-Iran relations would become normal and friendly, when Tehran accepted the right of Israel to exist. The German Vice Chancellor has also voiced concern about the situation with human rights violations in Iran.
