As many as 60,000 people are expected to attend a massive anti-austerity demonstration in Brussels that will be held on Thursday, local media reported citing trade unions organizing the manifestation.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — According to Le Soir newspaper, the rally will begin at 11:30 a.m. local time [09:30 GMT] at the Botanique boulevard. The rally will be held to protest decrease of population's spending capacity, job cuts in the public sector, longer working hours and extending of the retirement age.

Due to the manifestation, only one line in the Brussels subway is open out of four, and eight out of 50 bus routes are operated.

Police urged the civilians to refrain from driving in the city center due to the rally.

The previous anti-austerity rally that took place in May also gathered some 60,000 people, and resulted in clashes between protesters and the police.
