KIEV (Sputnik) – The Foreign Ministry also highlighted that the preliminary results of the investigation of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash confirmed that the flight was downed as a result of the explosion of a warhead launched from a Buk air defense missile system.
“The publication of this information is an important milestone towards our ultimate common goal: bringing to justice all those responsible for downing the aircraft. It is our moral duty to the 298 victims and their relatives and friends,” the ministerial statement said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) told family members of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash that a Buk air defense missile hit the plane from militia-held territory in eastern Ukraine two years ago.
The JIT report, authored by prosecutors from the Netherlands, Belgium, Ukraine, Australia and Malaysia, has not been officially released.
