France Urges UNSC to Vote on Upcoming Resolution on Syria Ceasefire

France strongly urges the UN Security Council members to vote on its upcoming resolution on the ceasefire in war-torn Syria, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — He added that with the ceasefire established, a collective surveillance mechanism proposed by France could be established.

"We propose to discuss a resolution to actually reach a ceasefire in Aleppo, and that resolution will make everyone face up to their responsibilities. Those who abstain from voting will risk being considered complicit in war crimes," Ayrault said in his speech at the National Assembly.

Ayrault stressed that Aleppo would not share the fate of Guernica, a town heavily bombed during the Spanish Civil War.

The Syrian city of Aleppo is in the middle of heavy fighting as the Syrian government forces declared an end to the week-long Russia-US-brokered ceasefire, blaming rebels for numerous violations that made the cessation of hostilities unreasonable.
