California’s Independence Movement to Support Trump at US Presidential Election

California’s independence movement will support Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at the upcoming elections believing that his victory may encourage Californians to vote for independence, Louis J. Marinelli, the president of the Yes, California Independence Campaign, told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On September 25, Moscow hosted an international conference dedicated to the right of nations to self-determination. Marinelli attended the event among other fighters for their regions' independence.

"If Donald Trump wins, I think it will seriously invigorate the people of California to support the independence referendum. So in that form, I guess we are going to support Donald Trump, because we believe that he will make Californians believe that independence is the best way out," Marinelli said.

The Yes, California Independence Campaign has an intention to organize a public opinion vote and see how many Californians want to be independent, Marinelli added.

According to Marinelli, the California’s independence referendum may take place in 2019, and the Yes, California Independence Campaign plans to start collecting signatures for the ballot initiative process in the state after the 2016 presidential elections in the United States, probably next summer.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 8.
