Strikes on Syria Army Reveal Washington's True Goals - Iranian Official

Airstrikes carried out by US coalitiom jets against the Syrian army revealed real goals of Washington that are hidden behind pledges taken by the United States under US-Russia plan for the settlement in the war-torn country, Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The adviser to the Supreme Leader also urged US-supporters to learn a lesson from the US airstrikes.

"[Such actions unveil] real goals masked by the truce plan," Haddad Adel told Fars News Agency.

"Those who remain optimistic about the Americans and trust them, should learn a lesson from this aggression. The Americans would never refuse to break the promises," Adel added.

The attacks by the coalition planes near the Deir ez-Zor airport were first reported by the Syrian army on Saturday. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks saying they killed 62 servicemen and injured 100 more. The US Central Command said that Syrian troops were mistaken for Daesh terrorist group.

On September 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry announced a new peace plan to address the five-year conflict in Syria. The ceasefire stipulated by the agreement came into force on September 12. Humanitarian access, along with seven days of reduced violence, are some of the conditions of the US-Russia deal.
