BRICS Security Advisers Agree to Enhance Cyber Security

Security Advisers of the BRICS countries on Thursday agreed to cooperate in the area of cyber security and enhance joint efforts to combat the menace of terrorism.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — BRICS Security Advisers meeting in New Delhi agreed to expand counter terrorism cooperation to cut terror funding, which is essential to root out terrorism. The meeting was presided over by Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

“They deliberated on security issues such as counter terrorism, cyber security and energy security. We also exchanged views on the recent developments in the West Asia and North Africa region. In the area of cyber security and information security they agreed to enhance cyber security by joint efforts by sharing of information and best practices combating cybercrimes, improving cooperation between technical and law enforcement agencies including joint cyber security R and D and capacity building,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup told media.

He further added that, “The higher representatives encouraged cooperation and exchanging of best practices, expertise, information and knowledge on counter terrorism issues. In this context they welcome the first meeting of the BRICS Working Group Counter Terrorism that was held a day before.”

Security Advisers from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa and India took part in the meeting. The Russian delegation was led by Nikolai P Patrushev.
