The report released by the US House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on Thursday is distorted, former US National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden posted in a Twitter message.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Snowden said that "their report is so artlessly distorted that it would be amusing if it weren't such a serious act of bad faith."

The report summary said Snowden damaged US national security when he made public a cache of documents about the US government's intelligence programs in 2013.

The Committee found that Snowden was not a whistleblower, explaining that he bypassed numerous official channels available to express concerns about US intelligence activities.

Snowden Caused 'Tremendous Damage' to US National Security
The report characterized Snowden as a serial exaggerator and fabricator who lied about his US Army service record and previous employment at the Central Intelligence Agency. Additionally, it accused him of stealing answers to an NSA employment test and faking performance evaluations.

Snowden posted additional messages on Thursday detailing examples of problems with the report, including, "The Committee seems to intentionally conflate my authorized government work with my unauthorized whistleblowing. Diminishes them."

In 2013, Snowden revealed classified documents to two reporters exposing the mass surveillance practices of the US government at home and abroad. Snowden faces espionage and other charges that could land him in prison for up to 30 years.
