Clinton Releases Details on Health Condition Following Bout With Pneumonia
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Senior figures in the US Democratic Party have begun considering what was previously unthinkable: preparing contingency plans to replace Hillary Clinton as their presidential candidate, US analysts told Sputnik.

"Don Fowler, former DNC [Democratic National Committee] chair spoke the unthinkable on Tuesday: Replace Clinton with [Vice President] Joe Biden or [Secretary of State] John Kerry over her health problems," Executive Intelligence Review senior editor Jeff Steinberg said on Wednesday.

DNC bylaws provide for such procedures, he noted.

Clinton is expected to resume campaigning on Thursday, following a bout with pneumonia that forced her abrupt exit from a New York City event honoring victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Steinberg said an investigation launched by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, a Democrat and Clinton ally, into Donald Trump’s charitable foundation is part of a strategy to discredit Trump as he catches Clinton in opinion polls.

"Yes, it is a distraction from Hillary's troubles," he said. "But it is part of Democrats’ Plan B now that it is clear Trump and his ‘deplorables’ could win."

At a campaign rally last week, Clinton described half of Trump’s supporters as "a basket of deplorables" for holding views the Democrat said are bigoted. Clinton has drawn criticism for that remark.

Political scientist and commentator John Walsh said attempts to uncover embarrassing information about Trump came after the Republican nominee made clear he wouldn’t be deterred from championing improved relations between the United States and Russia.

"Trump should be congratulated for appearing on RT," Walsh stated. "It is one more sign that he means it when he says we should ‘get along’ with Russia. It is all the more impressive because the prediction was that such a stance would cost him votes."

According to Walsh, the New York attorney general’s probe of the Donald J. Trump Foundation is a ploy to divert Americans’ attention from issues and substantive differences between the candidates. He also called it a bid to discredit Trump without having to address some of the Republican’s constructive foreign-policy ideas.

"This is the tip of an iceberg," Walsh said. "The bellicose Hillary Clinton, who has never seen a war she does not love, could tumble us into World War III, a nuclear conflagration. She will certainly lead us in that direction."

Trump has made clear his determination to pursue a more responsible course in international affairs if elected US president, Walsh insisted.

"There is every sign that Trump will lead us away from that. That is a question of survival for human civilization, and what could be more important than survival?" he asked.

Also this week, Democrats on the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee called on US Attorney General Loretta Lynch to investigate the Trump Foundation.
