The Syrian Moscow-Cairo-Astana opposition group expressed hope that the UN special envoy for Syria will announce the next round of negotiations around September 21-22.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Syrian Moscow-Cairo-Astana opposition platform hopes that UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will announce the next round of intra-Syrian talks around September 21-22 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, leader of the platform Qadri Jamil told Sputnik.

"We have no information and we received no invitations. We hope that [UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan] de Mistura will decide on the date after September 21. Approximately, on September 21-22, during the UN General Assembly and Security Council," Jamil said.

He added that Moscow-Cairo-Astana platform supported the Russia-US ceasefire reached on September 9, as the "political decision is the only needed decision in Syria."

The latest round of intra-Syrian talks took place in Geneva on April 13-27. The Syrian government delegation, as well as three opposition groups — the Riyadh-formed High Negotiations Committee (HNC), the Moscow-Cairo-Astana and the Hmeimim groups — have been taking part in the UN-mediated negotiations.
