MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope on Tuesday that the ceasefire in Syria would be permanent, saying that so far it is largely holding.

"I hope that the ceasefire will be permanent," Erdogan said, as quoted by the Hurriyet Daily newspaper.

Erdogan added that there were problems in two to three villages, and suggested that if everything went well and all parties committed to the ceasefire agreement during the first 48 hours, there would be a big chance that the truce might last.

A nationwide truce in Syria was brokered by Russia and the United States and came into force on Monday, the truce doesn't include Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) and Jabhat Fateh al-sham, formerly known as Al-Nusra front terrorist organizations, both outlawed in Russia.
