New Delhi (Sputnik) — India commissioned its most advanced locally designed and built offshore patrol vessels. This 105-meter vessel is the third ship in the series of six offshore patrol vessels and is fitted with the most advanced state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machines.
“The ship is designed to carry one twin engine Light Helicopter and five high speed boats including two Quick Reaction Inflatable Boats for swift boarding operations, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol,” a statement released by India’s Ministry of Defense read.
The ship will be based at Kochi and will form part of the Naval Training Squadron. In addition, the ship will be deployed for the EEZ surveillance and other duties to safeguard the maritime interests of India. Presently, the Indian Coast Guard has a fleet of 123 ships and boats, and a further 68 ships and boats are at various stages of construction at different shipyards.
