World and European champion in track and field athletics Dmitry Safronov broke the world record in the 200-meter race (T35 class), covering the distance in 23.15 seconds, while Evgeny Shvetsov closed the run at a distance of 800 meters in 2 minutes 05.04 seconds.
The sad thing is that all the athletes' achievements won't be recognized officially as the records are registered only at international competitions of a certain class.
Russia was suspended from the Paralympics by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in early August. The IPC cited the country's alleged failure to comply with the organization's anti-doping rules as the reason behind its decision.
The ban was mainly influenced by the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) McLaren report on the alleged widespread use of performance enhancing substances by Russian athletes. The report, however, hardly mentioned Russian Paralympic athletes, apart from in relation to a list of 35 allegedly missing doping samples.
