The US Department of Commerce announced that US authorities introduced sanctions against eleven Russian and international electronics firms.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US authorities introduced sanctions against eleven Russian and international electronics firms over their alleged links to the Ukrainian conflict, the US Department of Commerce announced in a case document.

"[US] BIS [Bureau of Industry and Security], pursuant to Executive Order 13661, and in consultation with the Departments of State, Defense, Energy, and the Treasury, has designated… eleven entities," the document said on Tuesday.

The sanctioned companies include affiliates of one of the largest Eastern European manufacturers of integrated circuits Angstrem Group, Foreign Economic Association (FEA) Radio export and microelectronics manufacturer Mikron, among others.

The document has also noted that sanctions have been introduced against Giovan and Technopole companies, which are both registered in Hong Kong and India.

The US authorities added the list of electronics companies to dozens of Russian entities sanctioned on Thursday.

Last week, the US Department of the Treasury introduced sanctions related to the conflict in eastern Ukraine against 18 construction, transportation and defense entities operating in Crimea, as well as dozens of Gazprom and Bank of Moscow subsidiaries.

Relations between Russia and the West soured in 2014 after the overwhelming majority of the Crimean population voted to leave Ukraine for Russia in a March referendum, prompting the United States, the European Union and their allies to impose sanctions on both Russia and the breakaway republic.
