Dozens of thousands people took to the streets of Taipei protesting against government reforms of pension system, local media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Taipei Times newspaper reported that the Saturday rally gathered representatives of retired and active civil servants, public-school teachers and military personnel, who demanded Taipei not to target them in planned reform of the pension system.

The organizers reported about 250,000 protesters, while local authorities claim that the rally was attended by some 120,000 people, the newspaper added.

According to the media outlet, this is the first massive demonstration since Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen came into power in May.
