A representative of SOS, Akhmed Murabbiya, told Sputnik that the purpose of the organization is to comfort children who have lost their families during the war. The organization provides them with a home where they can start over.
“Our village consists of several houses, each of which has a teacher and a warden. At the moment, we have three such villages, Al-Assad, As'Saboura and Aleppo. We have been able to shelter 500 children from different provinces of Syria,” Akhmed said.
Residents of these “children's villages” are orphaned youth who have lost one or both their parents in the war, which has lasted for more than five years now and killed hundreds of thousands of civilians.
“We provide them with medical care and education. Recently we set a goal to help children find their missing parents,” Akhmed added.
According to him, the organization is cooperating in the search for missing parents together with other charities and government agencies.
The center in Aleppo specifically takes in children from various organizations who have psychological war trauma where they receive help. There are also various kinds of entertainment arranged for the kids and they are also given presents and toys.
“Children with psychological trauma go through a rehabilitation procedure twice a week under the guidance of experienced psychologists,” Akhmed explained.
Head of the finance department, Lour Kat, told Sputnik that the SOS helps children aged 0 to 18 who have lost their parents. Particular attention is paid to school-age children as it is necessary to provide them with an education.
According to various reports about 19,000 children have been killed in the war and around 5.6 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance.
