BERLIN (Sputnik) — Turkey called off its ambassador from Germany after the German parliament in June adopted a resolution recognizing the 1915-1916 massacre of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire as genocide.

"We are welcoming the fact that Turkey is planning to send a new ambassador to Berlin soon, and we are welcoming the revival of the political relations between Germany and Turkey by means of mutual visits," Schaefer told reporters.

Ankara has repeatedly denied accusations of committing mass murder of Armenians, claiming that the victims of the tragedy were both Turks and Armenians.
