US Secretary of State John Kerry discussed assistance to Libya with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi during a meeting in New Delhi, India, US Department of State spokesperson Mark Toner said in a statement.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On August 1, the United States launched Operation Odyssey Lightning at the request of Libya’s Government of National Accord to allow state forces to make a strategic advance against the Daesh positions in the town of Sirte.

"On Libya, they discussed how the United States and Egypt can cooperate to support the Government of National Accord and counter violent extremism in the region," Toner stated on Thursday.

Kerry also provided an update for Sisi on the ceasefire in Syria and efforts to restart talks on a political transition in the country, according to the State Department.

The Daeshis a designated terrorist organization outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries throughout the world.
