MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The deputy chair of Turkey’s Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK), Mehmet Yilmaz said that as many as 2,847 judges and prosecutors had been fired in line with the decree-laws under the declared state of emergency after the coup, the Hurriet Daily News newspaper reported on Wednesday.
On July 15, a coup attempt took place in Turkey suppressed by the following morning. Approximately 26,000 people have been arrested since the attempted overthrow of the Turkish government that led to over 260 deaths. Officials alleged that Gulen, who Ankara believes is seeking to overthrow the current government, was linked to the thwarted coup.
Over 80,000 judges, civil servants, and educators have been suspended under the state of emergency, with thousands more people being under investigation.
