The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear a joint appeal lodged by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan relating to the international federation’s Olympic ban imposed on the countries, the president of the Russian Weightlifting Federation said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The IWF banned Russia from the ongoing Rio Olympics on July 29. IWF President Tamas Ajan said Wednesday the Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh weightlifting federations would be banned for a year following the end of the August 5-21 summer games.

"As you know, the Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh federations are challenging the decision with the CAS. We were able to find out that these three appeals would be heard jointly," Russian Weightlifting Federation President Sergey Syrtsov said.

Syrtsov further quoted the German federation leader Christian Baumgartner’s July 25 recommendation letter to the IWF as claiming that Russia had brought sport a "bad name" because of doping allegations.
