Gas Wars: Polish Regulator Casts a Pall Over Nord Stream 2 Joint Venture
BERLIN (Sputnik) – On Friday, the Nord Stream-2 AG consortium said that European partners in the natural gas pipeline project, namely ENGIE, Gazprom, OMV, Shell, Uniper and Wintershall, would continue with their plans despite withdrawing a joint venture request in response to the Polish antitrust regulator’s objection.

"It is important that we along with other applicants still support the project and believe that is has a crucial importance for the European energy system. We are studying now alternative ways of its implementation… The project company Nord Stream-2 AG has all necessary skills for implementation of the pipeline’s project. The company has a stockholder now – Gazprom. There is a project plan for construction and putting into service," the spokesperson told RIA Novosti.

The Nord Stream-2 project aims to deliver up to 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia to Germany annually via the Baltic Sea. Gazprom has a shareholder agreement to extend the existing Nord Stream with the European energy firms.
